THE IMPORTANCE OF PARTICIPATION IN EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Young girls and boys should be active as much as they can and show interest. Through extracurricular activities we learn to work in teams, to create perfect friendships. Physical activities are useful for health, reduce stress, taking part in competition builds self-confidence, we come creators and innovative, they help us find our passion etc.

We all think that school offers enough and we don’t have to take part in any activities outside of it, but truly there are some things schools don’t teach us to develop as an individual. Commitment in school should be fulfilled with extracurricular activities because it helps the children figure out their abilities and interest, therefore showing their personal identity and develop as much as they can.
Programs that allow youth to create activities that are useful to their community and to take meaningful roles in projects (including artistic shows and other kinds of public presentation) offer opportunities for young people to develop important social, emotional and cognitive abilities. So, young people can be benefiters and be supported in creations of different projects from their ideas, as I was a benefiter of a grant to start a science cabinet at a primary school, and a benefiter of another project to create a painting summer camp which had an aim to unite young girls and boys from different communities.
There are private schools which have after-school programs to accommodate the children of parents who work. But they ask for a fee. While there are free extracurricular programs which are located near community organizations. If there’s any interest in children, they can create conditions for commitment. But, actually schools should offer much more. Even though there’s a lack of activities that are organized by schools, there are different formal and informal groups and initiatives that create many possibilities in whatever field of interest regarding commitment to extracurricular activities.
We all know that our life experiences are as important as reading books within the day.
Taking part in learning, recreational or sport activities is very important since it allows the children and young girls and boys to explore and filter different interests while simultaneously having fun. These activities help in communication and social abilities. They also offer a different learning experience from others.
Based in different studies but also from personal experience, through commitment to extracurricular activities, you can gain different abilities such as teamwork, critical thinking, debate, arts, soft-skills, time management, healthy living habits, volunteerism and much more that help me be confident, responsible, feel good, find myself and above all I understand that by doing things creatively and full of love we all shine in a way or another. The opportunities I use in these activities are very important to see my life in different perspectives.
Extracurricular activities also help in overcoming prejudice towards different social groups, something that recently happened to me.
In the month of April of this year I took part in a youth assembly where there were young people from all around Kosovo, with different communities included. Initially, in the first day of the event I thought that Albanians and minorities are more distanced towards each other. During this new experience, maybe at the beginning I had some prejudices but by taking part in debate for different topics and youth exchanges, so knowing them better, I personally saw that we are very close, therefore I concluded that these prejudices were not based on anything real, they were wrong. These served as a good experience to change my attitude towards different communities and I will always be ready for cooperation and communication with different communities.
So, we should challenge fear, and feel free to speak in front of others.
Young girls and boys should be active as much as they can and show interest. Through extracurricular activities we learn to work in teams, to create perfect friendships. Physical activities are useful for health, reduce stress, taking part in competition builds self-confidence, we come creators and innovative, they help us find our passion etc.
In a country where motivation and opportunities in school are very few, I hope that the desire for commitment and the enthusiasm never end.
